The fly killer
The fly killer is a device that is used to attract insects such as flies and wasps, the flies are initially attracted to a light bulb which lures them into an electrical grid. The fly is then electrocuted and killed.
The flying killing tube bulb is normally housed in a protective cage to keep others safe such as animals and humans whom may otherwise no be familiar with the dangers. The bulb in the fly killer will often be a fluorescent lamp for the emission of ultraviolet and violet light.
The light is enclosed by a pair of interleaved wire grids; these will be about 2 millimetres apart. A voltage of 2000 volts or even more will be emitted by the grid, killing the fly, the dispensing it into a waste unit.
Although the amount of voltage may seem to pose a death threat to the general public and other animals if touched, the electrical current is not substantial enough to produce a harsh enough electrocution. Solar powered bug zappers are also offering a lower power output which would be combined with a solar lamp.
