Ever wondered how an LED actually works?

LED lighting is definitely the way things are headed and we have seen absolutely massive leaps forward in technology recently.

The LED light has started out like the early compact fluorescent bulbs with pretty poor performance that wasn’t really up to the standards they claimed. Now we have compact fluorescent low energy bulbs that will perform almost any job and do it well. Of course there are still rubbish ones out there but as a general rule they are perfectly good at their job.

One non led lamp that still really amazes me however is the Low Energy High Bay at 150 watts it really is a no compromise replacement for a 400 watt metal halide high bay – in fact it is much better!

However I’m sure even that will eventually be surpassed by an LED equivalent one day

In the meantime, if you are having trouble figuring out all this LED business Philips have done this useful site stuffed full of information Philips Guide to LED lighting

and should you find yourself yearning for a bulb or two you can buy your very own Here

If I wanted to replace under cupboard unit lighting in the kitchen with LED, what would you recommend? The units vary in length from 2.5m down to 0.4 m.

      Dear John

There are so many different LED versions of undercabinet lighting that you can pick the one you like the most and it will do the job. We recommend that you don’t just go for the cheapest because with LED’s you get what you pay for and if you buy cheap ones then they may not last or be very good. It may be unlikely that you can find any that work with your existing wiring so you may have to change that as well to use LED fittings which if the cables are behind cabinets etc makes it quite diffcult.
