Dining Room
The dining area needs flexibility when it comes to lighting. There is need for different types of lighting for different occasions. For relaxed family breakfast bright light seems to be the most suitable, whereas for a romantic dinner for two, more intimate atmosphere is needed.
Before installing light in this room, think about the type of table you’ve got in it. If it is a glass one, make sure your light source has got a diffuser in order not to look at the reflection of the bulb.
If you have a long table in your dining room, fitting a series of pendant lights along its length will increase the level of the light and also it will look stylish.
The optimal height of fitting the lighting above the table is about 60cm. If you use a dimmer, your table will be able to be used also for other jobs, such as sewing.
Although the centre of your dinner table should be highlighted, it is not a good idea for the light to be directly focussed on the food itself. Even lighting means guest’s hands are not highlighted when they help themselves to food.
You might also want to create atmosphere by candle light. Just make sure the heat and smoke are far enough from the light fitting. You might want to have a look into our Candle Lamps. They will create the effect you need without smoke and heat.
