Lamp changing Pole.
Posted on January 14, 2008 @ 12:27 pm [Comments (1)]

We have finally got around to putting the lamp changing pole on the web site, they are a top quality product and consequently quite expensive.
When you consider the cost of a cherry picker and the health and safety implications of using that kind of access equipment it looks a bit more reasonable, also once you have paid for it you have it for ever, they are pretty much indestructible.
The pole is a high quality fibre glass telescopic tube with very positive locking system which you can set at various heights up to a maximum of 20ft. it is all in feet because they are American.
It is fibreglass to ensure the operator is fully insulated from the light fitting.
It works by forcing a sprung loaded basket over the lamp which holds it firmly while you unscrew the lamp.
Obviously it works the same way to put a new lamp in place.

Smilight testimonials, we must be doing something right.

I just wanted to say a big thank you for your excellent service. I recently placed an order for a Smilite replacement fitting and tube, the advice you gave on the phone was excellent and the fitting arrived within 48 hours of placing the order - not bad the week before Christmas. The light was easy to fit and nothing was missing. My local electrical supplier wanted to charge me £31.50 for the tube alone and said it would be February at the earliest. Well done to you!!

Best wishes

Low energy lamp nonsense I could not believe my ears
Posted on January 7, 2008 @ 2:47 pm [Comments (0)]

There was this chap from the environment agency telling everyone on the BBC that low energy lamps are dangerous
They clearly are not or they would not be allowed to be sold.

Does anyone imagine that Companies of the stature of Philips, Osram, GE, and Sylvania are going to sell a product that is harmful to its users?
They most certainly would not.

And neither would we.

If we had any concerns we would be plastering warnings everywhere, we don’t because there is not a safety issue at all.

The Environment agency have plainly forgotten all about the RoHS regulations which they helped to write and which came into force in July 2006.
The purpose of RoHS is to ensure that no product can enter the market place which does not comply with the very stringent EU requirements regarding the levels of potentially hazardous material.
I.E. they are safe for the public to use.
It is not just mercury but also lead and a wide range of other materials.
All of our low energy lamps are RoHS compliant.

They have also forgotten the WIEE regulations which came into force last year and provide a mandatory system for recycling all types of fluorescent lamps, you can just take them to your normal recycling centre and they will do it for you, the cost is included in every lamp purchased.
I find it astonishing that a Government agency can be so cavalier as to make these kinds of statements without looking up the true position.
It is political correctness and Health and safety gone mad, you would probably have to eat the low energy bulbs to cause yourself any harm.
The timing is impeccable, here we are with energy prices going up by 16% and the government are putting out scare stories about the most cost effective product available for people to reduce their energy consumption.
Clearly the lunatics have taken over the asylum.
