Budget low energy lamps.
Posted on October 22, 2007 @ 10:57 am [Comments (0)]

We are very very particular about the quality of the lamps we supply and so we do not like to supply non branded lamps.
This has meant that we have not been able to offer a low cost budget low energy lamp, until now that is.
We have a limited stock of Philips low energy lamps which we can offer at a quite silly price we don’t have that many but white stocks last it is too good to miss.
The trouble with most cheap low energy lamps is that the colour changes with age, they go very creamy almost yellow quite quickly, also they tend to have a higher failure rate.
This is not the case with proper branded lamps like these Philips lamps they will do exactly what it says on the box.
We use them ourselves at home and we have no hesitation in receommending them.
We are often asked when it is worth changing to low energy lamps, we use this simple plan as a guide.
Less than one hour per day probably not.
More than one but less than two hours per day it probably won’t save that much but it will make you feel better.
Three hours definately change it unless you like paying your elctricity supplies lots of money unnecessarily

You can even use the same wiring as for your smilight fittings.
You will find all of the info you need including measurement and how to do it on the Kitchen lights pages.
But if you are at all uncertain please call us.

Low energy lamp confusion, Customers are already concerned about Filament lamps.

Typical Government stuff, make an announcement and think about the consequences later.

There are lots of times when only a filament lamp can be used, and there is no low energy alternative so rest assured that common sense will prevail.

For instance oven lamps, they have to work in very high temperature low energy lamps will not do this.

Similarly in Freezers as low energy lamps will not work below minus 13 degrees.

Infra red heat lamps we use to keep our pets nice and warm will have to continue to be made.
How are restaurants going to keep the food hot without heat lamps?
How are smokers going to survive a winter out side the pub without infra red heat lamps.
Paint, dyes, inks, glues and a wide range of other uses require the heat a filament lamp produces.

Where you need instant light again filament lamps are the only answer, security lights for example have to be instant so they must be available.

Whilst we have been pioneering low energy lamps for many years you have to be sensible and assess the opportunities for energy saving in a sensible manner, these “knee jerk “announcements are not very helpful.
