Description of Twist & Lock LED Spotlight

LED lamps are finally starting to deliver on all their promise with these lamps from Philips being the best we have seen

LEDs are still expensive but are at the cutting edge of low energy lighting technology. They not only save you money on your energy bill but their amazingly long lifespan will mean you don't have to think about replacing them for years

They come in 3, 4, 5.5 and 7 watt versions with the 7 and 5.5 watt at last being a good equivalent to a 50 watt filament lamp

The first generation of cluster LEDs were a bit blue, not bright enough and not particularly reliable - these new ones are a huge step forward and are being seen more and more in shops, hotels and offices where they offer massive energy savings along with reduced maintenance costs

With a 20,000 hour life for the 3 and 4 watt bulbs and a huge 45,000 hour life for the 7 and 5.5 watt (that's over 5 years if you never turn them off) these really are fit and forget lamps. Traditional filament versions of these lamps usually last around only 1000 hours and use a lot more energy - they are also notoriously sensitive to voltage spikes which can also shorten their life.

The newest 5.5 watt lamp is simply amazing in its quality and size. It is the same size as a traditional filament GU10 bulb and is easily as bright. Philips have made huge leaps forwards with LEDs recently and this lamp is no exception. Fit one in your kitchen ceiling and forget about it for a decade!

LED lamps contain no mercury and do not flicker so are great if you don't life fluorescent low energy bulbs. They also produce no UV so will not fade paintings etc

The 3 watt is 55.5mm tall and 50mm wide and is not dimmable

The 4 watt is 55.7mm tall and 50mm wide and is dimmable

The 5.5 watt is 54.6 tall and 50mm wide and is not dimmable

The 7 watt is 81mm tall and 50 mm wide and is dimmable
