IMPORTANT SAFETY INFORMATION.

If you are using any mains powered equipment in the garden you really must protect it with an RCD device.
RCDs are very sensitive fuses which will protect you from electric shocks should you have an accident with either the appliance or the supply cable.
You can easily reset them if they trip out and they give a positive indication that they are working correctly.
They are cheap to buy and need no installation they just plug in a normal socket and then you plug you mower or whatever into the RCD they will save your life, which I am sure, is worth much more than £ 8.50 inc vat, which is what they cost.
For more permanent installations in your garden you should use armoured cable as normal cable should not be buried.
We can supply a cable called armour flex which is normal flexible cable but has a steel mesh outer sheath, it is much easier to work with than the normal steel wire armoured cable which is very stiff and can’t be hidden very well, it is quite expensive compared with normal cable but well worth for the peace of mind it brings.

Armour flex cable.

As you can see in the picture it is heavy duty three core cable i.e. live neutral and earth.
The heavy duty cable is surrounded by a steel mesh which will prevent all but the most intense attack with a sharp object, but allows the cable to remain quite flexible.
Outside this again is a clear UPC sheath that protects the steel armour and the core from moisture and corrosion.
Some garden lights do not use an earth wire, as the earth of your garden does the job very well; it is where the earth wire goes eventually anyway.
In the ideal world all cables in the garden would be buried to a depth that a garden fork could not reach we know this often not possible or convenient in the domestic setting and so the flexible armoured cable is a very good compromise.
We still insist that you should use an RCD device on every outdoor supply to not do so is extremely foolish, the RCDs are cheap and your or your pet’s lives are not.
