I thought that as we are going to sell these lamps we better find out first hand how they are to install and how much energy you can really save by using them.

I started with the highest one just outside the office door; it was top of the ladder stuff
The new lamp went in very easily, too easily as it turned out,
I descended the ladder and tested the light fitting, nothing doing, no light, back up the ladder I was a little more careful in positioning the low energy lamp this time, I had not seated it properly.
Back down again and all was well.

Next the light fitting over looking the car park, again very old and very rusty, it should have been changed years ago.
This time the screws would not come undone so I had to change the fitting.
So this lamp is in a brand new fitting again the old one was 500 watts.

The third one by the warehouse door was easy it lit first time; I was getting the hang of it by now.

Next two one a 500 watt and one a 300 watt they are at the back of the buildings which discourage any intruders, these were very straight forward.

Lastly the two out the front which also light the car park and deter intruders these turned out to be the small ones 78 mm so I am going to change the light fittings so we can use the new lamps in them.
These are only 150 watts so the new ones will probably be a bit brighter than we are used to.

Our total energy saving to date is as follows we were using four 500 watt, one 300 watt one 200 watt and two 150 watt lamps.

That's a total of 2800 watts it was costing us 2.8 units of electricity for every hour we had them running which is a few hours a day at this time of year.
The new lamps burn only 192 watts in total so cost only 0.19 units of electricity per hour.

That's a reduction from 32 pence per hour to 2.1 pence per hour pretty remarkable.

The light levels are slightly less but you wouldn't really know unless you saw it immediately before and after, and is in our opinion perfectly OK; we are not trying to blind people just see where we are going safely and deterring intruders at night.

All in all very satisfactory it is also very nice to know I won't have to go up that ladder to change lamps for a very long time.
