will help keep the mercury in your lamps out of the environment forever.
It is now illegal for businesses to deposit used fluorescent tubes and lamps in landfill sites. This also applies to Discharge lamps such as Sons, Mercurys and Metal Halides.
The reason for this is because there is enough mercury in one 6ft fluorescent tube to pollute 30,000 litres of drinking water.
The new directive states that it is the user's responsibility to ensure the tubes have been correctly recycled,
The user must be able to prove that it has been done.
Commercial Lamp Supplies Ltd is a licensed waste carrier and can offer a range of options to suit our customers needs.
There are 5 options available.
1/ THE LAMPSAFE BOX SERVICE
This is the simplest option for most users, when the box is full we collect it and supply a new box. The box will hold 150 x 6ft slim line tubes (300 3ft tubes or 450 2ft tubes and variations thereof!)
A mixture of 4ft and 2ft tubes would result in a cost of £0.48p per tube).
You don't own the box it remains our property, you are buying the recycling service and the box is the most convienent way for us to collect the used tubes and it gives you somewhere safe to store them.
This box may be ordered from our website.ORDER ONE HERE
2/ THE 8FT LAMP TUBE
This is a corrugated tube which will take 55 eight foot tubes.
The eight foot tubes are always T12, that is the fat ones which are an inch and a half in diameter.
You can also put shorter ones in and fill the space up with shaped fluorescent lamps.
It is the best thing we have found for small volumes of eight foot tubes.
Like the Lampsafe Box it is a complete system at a fixed price. This Tube may be ordered from our website.ORDER ONE HERE
3/ THE CLS200
As you can see this is getting BIG! This box will hold 760 1 1/2" 8ft tubes or 1900 slim line tubes. The same procedure applies; when it is full we bring you an empty one, count the tubes and send you an invoice. The cost of carriage is still approximately £125 and the tube price is still £0.45p each. So a box full of slim line 8ft tubes would mean a cost of £0.52p per tube. The box measures 4 x 4 x 8ft. It costs £599+vat. Delivered to site.
4/ THE CLS300
This is the big brother of the CLS300. It measures the same base size as the CLS300 but stands 7ft high. This box can hold 1520 1 ½ inch tubes or 3800 slim line tubes.
The carriage is still about £125 (depending on your location). This means 8ft 1 1/2 inch tubes cost £0.54p per tube to recycle. It costs £799+ vat delivered to site.
5/ THE CLS150
Fully collapsible heavy-duty distribution and storage container, complete with lid for the safe and dry storage of compact fluorescents, sodium lamps (SON) and small tubes. Capacity varies with the size of the lamps but on average it works out to be 1450 lamps. The costs depend on your location but average carriage costs around £125. There is then a charge made of £0.55p per lamp in the box. So an average cost per lamp recycled works out to be £0.64p per lamp. The box costs £199+vat delivered to site you are buying this box it is your property unlike the lampsafe where we own the box.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Option 1, the Lamp safe box, is designed for smaller operations that do not need to recycle 8ft tubes, it works most cost effectively with 2ft tubes. This and option 2, the 8ft Tubebox, are the only options where the cost is fixed. All the other options involve counting the tubes and carriage.
As you can see recycling is not a cheap option, we try to make the operation as simple as possible; please call us to ask for advice on the best option for you. It will depend upon the lamps you use, the number you recycle and the space available for storage and access.
If someone offers you recycling at a lower cost then beware that the recycling is really going to happen!
We are a registered waste carrier and will issue you with a waste transfer certificate assuring you that the lamps will be recycled.
Commercial Lamp Supplies Ltd operates a green procurement system as part of our ISO9001 : 2000 quality system, the lamps we sell we can recycle, this is important if you also operate an ISO quality control system.
