These are the standard 8-watt emergency bulkhead fittings.
They are very common very easy to install and maintain.

They can be used outdoors as they are all IP65 rated.

We supply them with a self-adhesive legend card, which adapts to all situations i.e. left or right, up or down so you don't have to worry about getting the correct directional arrows and running man.
They don't have words any more as this is no longer legal it must be pictorial.

There are two main types Maintained and Non-maintained.

The maintained fittings can be used as a normal light fitting, it can be switched on and off in the normal way, when the power supply is cut in an emergency the battery pack takes over and continues to run the lamp so the escape route is still illuminated.

The Non-maintained fitting only lights up when the power goes off i.e. it is not lit the rest of the time.
It has a normal power supply, which charges it's batteries and when it senses a power failure, it strikes the tube.
The non-maintained is the less common type; it has one main advantage, as the tube is always "new" and ready to go.
In a maintained fitting, you can see that the tube is working, but it is possible to have a dead tube and not spot it.
All emergency fittings should be regularly tested, they are normally installed with a test switch near by which can only be operated by a special key.
Each fitting should be tested monthly and every 12 months they should be run for at least an hour but preferably until the batteries are run down completely.
In this way the batteries which are sealed Nickel Cadmium can maintain a full charge, if you only partially discharge them they develop a "memory" and only part of their power is available.
All emergency fittings should have a red LED, which shows that the batteries are charged and ready for action, if the LED is not lit replace the batteries as soon as

Voltage

Code Name And Amp Hours

VAT IS NOW INCLUDED IN OUR ON SCREEN PRICES
These batteries are common in emergency lighting systems but also for fire alarms, burglar alarms, power tools, and even golf buggies.
You identify the battery you need from the number on the existing battery if it is a replacement.
Alternatively, by the voltage and amp hours if it is not a replacement
Most equipment will specify both of these figures. The voltage is self-explanatory and cannot be varied; you cannot mix voltages this should be considered as the "speed the power comes out"
You can change the amp hours if you wish, as this is the amount of power the battery holds in store, the problem is normally one of size and this limits your options.
We normally recommend you stick to the manufacturers specification unless you have a particular need.
Other brand names for similar batteries that are interchangeable are Hitachi, Fulman, Fiamm, Alcad, chloride and SEC.
